African SMEs must embrace AI!
SMEs in sub-Saharan Africa can increase
productivity by 20-30% through AI adoption,
driving growth and competitiveness in a rapidly evolving global market
In a region where SMEs account
for more than 80% of jobs, neglecting AI adoption risks being left behind.
In Africa, where SMEs are the backbone of economic growth, this opportunity is
even more critical:
●SMEs are central to Africa’s economic
health, driving a substantial portion
of GDP and employment. Yet, many remain under-equipped to harness digital
innovations—missing a critical opportunity to improve efficiency and
profitability.
●By integrating AI, African SMEs can streamline operations, enhance customer engagement, and
improve financial management—key levers for sustainable growth and competitive
advantage.
Why Female-Led MSMEs
#IWD2025
‘’Globally, a significant digital
gender gap persists. Women are 25% less likely than men to have sufficient
knowledge and digital skills to use technology. This disparity limits women’s
access to Scale their businesses and hinders their participation in the digital
economy.” Technology is the bridge to close
the digital divide. By equipping women with digital skills, we unlock their
potential to participate fully in the global economy, regardless of their
location or circumstance.
“The lack of digital literacy
among women contributes to economic losses. Adolescent girls and young women in
low- and middle-income countries miss out on US$15 billion in economic
opportunities due to gaps in internet access and digital skills, relative to
their male peers’’
Digital literacy is economic
power. When women master digital skills, they not only improve their own lives
but also contribute billions to the global economy
According to an article by Forbes,
“Women entrepreneurs often struggle to balance business demands with
family responsibilities, leading to burnout and limited growth.”
AI automation can streamline
business operations, freeing up valuable time for women entrepreneurs to focus
on strategic growth and maintain a healthy work-life balance.
ALX Nigeria GM’S Message
Ruby Igwe
It’s
2025, and this International Women’s Day, we urge you to accelerate action by
closing the digital gap in female-led businesses through the ALX Nigeria AI for
MSME Program. This program aims to accelerate the adoption of digital
technologies in women-led SMEs for sustainable growth.
In
2024, ALX Nigeria graduated 64,000 women from all our programs. In 2025, our
target is 280,000 female tech and entrepreneurship graduates.
We
cannot do this alone. They should not do this alone.
We
invite you to sponsor one woman in our programs today. When you train a woman
in tech, you endow her with a path full of bright opportunities for years
ahead, but that’s not all; you’re helping lead the way for millions of girls
and women to do the same.

Through
our partnership with ALX we hope to exponentially increase our reach and
impact. This aligns with our mission and represents the first step in a broader
initiative to make advanced technology accessible to all African entrepreneurs.
Our
programs have consistently shown that when you empower a woman entrepreneur,
you transform entire communities.
